I arranged Neil Diamond’s early hits on Bang Records. Recorded and released in 1966 Solitary Man was Neil’s first chart record. It was produced by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. On this record, I used trombones along with the rhythm section. It was a nice contrast to Neil’s vocal sound. If my memory is correct, we recorded this at A&R Recording Studios which was one of the popular studios in New York.
After I listened to the final playback at the session, I knew that Neil was going to be a huge star. He just had that something special in his voice and songs.
